China is the most populated country in the world, the world’s fastest growing economy and its one of the oldest civilizations with monuments like Great Wall and The Forbidden City. But it also has some places with the most stunning natural beauty which attracts thousands of tourists each year.
Lhasa and the rest of Tibet for example is where the tourists head to be inspired by the majesty and beauty of the Himalayas but there is another experience that has risen to fame in the last few years. It is the hiking opportunities in the gorges of the mountainous region of northern Yunnan.
The gorge is one of the deepest in the world which is 16 km long and is 3.9 km from the waters of Jinsha River. The area has some of the most gorgeous setting with snow capped peaks and the roaring river. The area has made a name for itself as one of the most famous trekking area in the continent of Asia. The closest international airport to the northern Yunnan area is that of Beijing and you can easily find the form the most airports of the world. The best way of travelling from Beijing to Northern Yunnan area is through the local bus service. The area is seeing a real boom in its tourism sector and you will find quite a lot of hotels and resorts in the area, especially in the city of Lijiang that caters to all kind of tourists.
The best time to visit the area is in the months of May and June when the snow melts and the area is full of blossoming flowers and plants. Most visitors plan for a four day tour of the area to explore the area properly but if you are just interested in a hike from the Lijiang to the surrounding mountains and back, then a couple of days will suffice for this purpose.
The first thing you need to know about once in Lijiang is the weather of the area which can prove deadly if a severe storm hits the area and you are in middle of your hike. The longest trek is from the Lijiang and ends to the south in Qiaotou. The best way to stay safe is to travel along with a group or at least in the presence of a seasoned guide who knows the terrain and weather of the area properly.
If you are not confident about your physical condition that you can take this adventurous trek then not to worry because the recent road development in the area has resulted in enough transport services to take you to the main view point of the area around 10 km for Lijiang. This may not be as adventurous as the hike in this marvelously beautiful area but you will surely get some of the most stunning sight viewing in the world. There are also a number of resorts in Qiaotou that mostly open only in the summer but are a lot costly than the ones in Lijiang.
