Ningbo Travel

Ningbo a beautiful & prosperous city in Zhejiang and also one of the most popular tourist cities in East China. The people of Ningbo have throughout their history had a deep affinity for the ocean. Two thousand years ago, Xu Fu, a necromancer of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.), led a fleet from here, thus becoming the first to commence China’s exchanges with other countries. In the early 20th century “Hong-band” tailors from Ningbo traveled extensively throughout China making their living.

Covering an area of 9,365 sq. km, Ningbo is a coastal city in Zhejiang Province, China. It lies on the south of the populous Yangtze River Delta and faces the East China Sea to the east. Ningbo possesses two main mountain ranges within its boundaries, Siming Mountain and Tiantai Mountain. Yuyao, Fenghua and Yongjiang Rivers are flowing through the city area, which as a whole a part of the river system in the province.

Climate

Ningbo enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate featuring high relative humidity and distinctive seasons. July is the hottest month (average daily temperature 29 degrees Celsius) and January the coldest (average daily temperature 4 degrees Celsius). As the frost-free period lasts 230 – 240 days annually it is suitable for the growth of grain, cotton and oil plants. The annual precipitation averages 1,300 to 1,400 mm.

There are plenty of airlines offering flights to Ningbo from major UK airports including London Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester, Aberdeen, Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff, New Castle, London Gatwick.

By bus

From Shanghai

It takeds two and a half hours to three hours using the Hangzhou Bay Bridge. If you were to travelling from Shanghai via Hanghzou, it would take about 4 hours. If you stay over for the night in the Sheraton in Shanghai you can make use of there free luxury coach service to bring you to the Sheraton in Ningbo.

By air

Downtown Ningbo is about 20min drive over 11 kilometers (about 6.8 kilometers) The taxi fare is about ¥45 – ¥60 Alternativly a Shuttle bus (CNY 10) Runs every hour until 6:20pm and stops at the South Ningbo Railway Station.

Ningbo Lische Airport has flights arriving from: to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Xi’an, Xiamen, Nanchang, Haikou, Shantou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Nanjing, Kunming, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Zhuhai, Hefei, Guilin, Chongqin, Dalian, Qingdao, Wuhan, Fuzhou, Harbin, Urumchi, Fukuoka (Japan), Incheon (Korea), Bangkok (Thailand), Hong Kong, Macao, Kaohsiung (Taiwan).

By train

Ningbo South Railway Station Can be found downtown and most hotels are a short taxi ride away. Taxi’s can be picked up under the station. Trying to get a taxi outside the station is virtually impossible. The tickets office is open from 6:15am – 7:45pm to the right side of the station. From Hangzhou

  • Hangzhou Railway Station 杭州火车站 is located in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou,

About 10 “D” trains (Fast trains, or 动车) run from Hangzhou South Station in Xiaoshan to Ningbo daily, and take about an hour and a half. An additional 10 trains run from Hangzhou Station (the “City Station,” or 城站) to Ningbo daily and average slightly longer travel times. Perhaps another dozen “K” and “Z” trains travel to Ningo from Hangzhou South Station and Hangzhou Station daily, taking as long as 4.5 hours.

From Shanghai

  • Shanghai Railway Station 上海火车站 is the main railway station in Shanghai. The station is located on Moling Road, Zhabei District.
  • Shanghai South Station 上海南站 Located in the Xuhui District

Currently the train does not cross the Hangzhou bay bridge hence the traveling time is about 3 hours to 4 hours as the train goes through Hangzhou.

Get around

Ningbo is so much bigger than the small downtown area, staying downtown can fill a few days but its just like any major city. To really see some jaw dropping parts of Ningbo you have to adventure into the outer districts. Where you will meet the kindest of people with the warmest of smiles. Breathtaking mountain ranges steeped in a deep and meaningful history that has been relatively undisturbed.
