Check in for flights at Marina bay sands

HOTEL guests at Marina Bay Sands who are departing on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir flights can now enjoy hassle-free check-in – at the integrated resort (IR) itself.

Baggage Express counters at the Marina IR’s Coach Terminal on Basement 1 are providing Singapore’s first city check-in service.

The counters are equipped to accept check-in baggage from guests, and to send the luggage straight to Changi Airport.

This can be done as long as hotel guests check in at least three hours before a flight’s departure time. They can check in as early as 48 hours before their flight.

Guests will receive baggageclaim tags, as well as their boarding passes at the Coach Terminal, where they can also choose their seats for their flight. They would then need only to head to the airport to clear immigration and be at the boarding gate before it closes.

This inaugural city check-in service, jointly introduced by Marina Bay Sands and Sats Limited, started last Wednesday and has received “strong interest” from the Marina IR’s guests, said a spokesman for Marina Bay Sands.

The check-in counters, manned primarily by Sats personnel, operate from Thursdays to Mondays, from 10am to 6pm.

Operating hours will be adjusted in response to customer demand for the service.

The service was launched in the hope that visitors will be able to spend more time doing the things they enjoy at the Marina IR and in Singapore, be it attending a conference, networking over a meal with business associates, or shopping for friends and family, the spokesman added.

And the good news for other travellers: The service is not restricted to the Marina IR’s guests. It is also available to visitors to Singapore who are staying at other hotels, though they would have to make their way to Marina Bay Sands for their check-in.

There is a handling charge of $25 for every two pieces of luggage checked in. The service is free for those without any check-in luggage.

Said Marina Bay Sands president and chief executive Thomas Arasi: “This is another value- added offering that Marina Bay Sands is providing for the convenience of our guests, and we will continue to introduce more innovative services in the coming months.”

The check-in service will be extended to cover more airlines in the coming months.
